About Marylee Zink

I am a Florida visual artist. A painter.

I have always been interested in the natural world.

This first led me to science and work for many years as a microbiolgist. I began moving from the observational to a more personal response when I became more interested in making art, which led to a degree in painting. Moving to Florida from Cincinnati, Ohio many years ago was life changing...and this lush and subtropical world that is Florida continues to inspire my work in countless ways.

My paintings often begin in a real time and place; but I am most interested in responding to that in new and creative ways. I attempt to express the poetry, the wonder, the colors, the feeling, of what I am experiencing.

I manipulate the painting in a variety of ways in order to do this. I use intense and multiple layers of color, with real and implied texture.  I paint in acrylics, often introducing collage elements, and love the infinite creative possibilities that are available. I also find different solutions using watercolors, colored pencils, and mixed media

.

I have enjoyed teaching painting for many years. My classes currently

include watercolors and acrylic/oils year round at the Morean Arts Center in St Petersburg, Fl.   I feel reaching out to my community about the importance of art is vitally important, and because of this I value my volunteer work as a docent at the Museum of Fine Arts, St Pete
