I am a visual artist–a painter–and a teacher.
I currently live in St Petersburg, Florida.
I have always been fascinated by the natural world. This has been a driving force in my life.
I am originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, where I earned a degree in biology, and worked as a microbiologist for many years.
My interest in nature became much more introspective when I began art studies at the Art Academy in Cincinnati. A move to Florida exposed me to an exotic and new natural world; I finished with a degree in painting at the University of South Florida.
My paintings today include work in watercolor, acrylics, collage, oil, and mixed media. Themes in these works are often about the wonder, the poetry, and the intensity of nature–as altered by time and memory–and seen through a prism of colors and altered states. This is achieved by skillfully manipulating the paintings in a variety of ways. I employ intense and multiple layers of color, with real and implied texture, and often introduce collage elements.
I also love to teach and share my knowledge of art. I have taught a variety of drawing classes, painting classes, and a variety of workshops in Florida for the last 15 years. I am currently teaching painting at the Morean Arts Center, in St Petersburg, Florida. I have also been a docent at the Museum of Fine Arts, St Petersburg, Florida for many years.
My work can be found in public and private collections; new paintings can be found at the Morean Arts Center gallery. I am also a past recipient of a Pinellas County Arts Council Individual Resource Grant.
